Black Cats

Happy Halloween, Friends :) This is one of my favorite days of the year. Witches, Ghost, Bats, Monster, etc… ohhhh and CANDY!

The folklore of black cats has always interested me. Depending on one’s area of the world (and the century one lived in), black cats portend either good or bad luck. Here are some examples, a couple of them quite involved, with some tongue-in-cheek asides.

  • In Asia and the U.K., a black cat is considered lucky.
  • In Yorkshire, England, it may be lucky to own a black cat, but it is unlucky have one cross your path.
  • To dream of a black cat is lucky.
  • On the other paw, seeing a black cat in your dream indicates that you are experiencing some fear in using your psychic abilities and believing in your intuition. I wonder who makes up these things?
  • A funeral procession meeting up with a black cat is believed to forecast the death of another family member.
  • In 16th century Italy, people believed that if someone was sick he would die if a black cat lay on his bed.
  • In North America, it’s considered bad luck if a black cat crosses your path and good luck if a white cat crosses your path. In the U.K., switch the colors, I guess unless you live in Yorkshire.
  • Finding a white hair on a black cat brings good luck. Don’t pluck it though, or your luck may turn bad.
  • A strange black cat on a porch brings prosperity to the owner. (Scottish Lore)
  • A black cat seen from behind portends a bad omen. (And a black cat seen from the front is a GOOD omen?)
  • Ahhh…an explanation here: If a black cat walks towards you, it brings good fortune, but if it walks away, it takes the good luck with it.
  • If a black cat crosses your path while you’re driving, turn your hat around backwards and mark an X on your windshield to prevent bad luck. Oh my, what if you aren’t wearing a hat? Or you’re not carrying a felt-tip pen or lipstick? Please, don’t try this one at home!

Here is my black cat- Chagall

He is named after my favorite Artist Marc Chagall. Chagall is the first black cat, I have owned. He is my little shadow, curious, and confident.

I am pretty sure cats (all animals for that matter) chose us as their guardian.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day, Happy Halloween!

Woo hoo- OWLS

I am going to make this short and sweet today since right now I am suppose to be packing for a long weekend away! I just wanted to share a couple of new necklaces with you.  First, I want to talk about your spiritual animals, you can goggle it an take a million and one survey’s to find out what your spiritual animal is. One of mine is the owl. I am not one of these jump on the band wagon type of gals since owls are cool I am going to do a bunch of owl pieces. Not that anything is wrong with that, it would be good marketing. I guess my point is that owls have a special meaning to me.

So, here are the necklaces:

I would love to hear what your spiritual animal(s) is! It’s sort of fun if you believe in this time thing or not!

Well since I am getting a little long winded now, I better fly off and finish packing.

Have a great rest of the week and weekend! Thanks so much for stopping in!

Butterfly love

A new necklace with a sweet and simple feel to it! It felt really good to get back to some bead embroidery. The aqua/blueish pendant hanging off the end of my work is from an artist here in my hometown Sherre Pechin of FiredandFused.

Butterfly Whisperer

© Alisha Manion
To some stranger you might be nothing at all.
But to me you are why I wake up in the mornings,
You are the reason why am not crying anymore.
You were the gentle man that came along,
And put together the pieces of me someone else had made.
Every time our lips meet its like we have made a trip around the universe,
Just me and you looking down on everyone else.
I know whenever those 3 words are going to be said it will be heaven on earth,
I will melt to the soil beneath your feet.
But now even being reminded you like me calls those butterfly’s to my stomach.
It’s like your voice has a secret code for the butterflies all over the earth,
Every time you speak they always show up.
Just remember,
To a stranger you might mean nothing at all.
But to me you’re my butterfly whisperer,
My smile.

Mayhem

Life never seems to settle down long enough for me to think we are settling into a grove! Oh well, it’s life be in it! SMILE! Seems we always have something going on and things to do! It is making it more difficult for me to spend time down in my studio!

Sometimes we just need to play in the leaves!

I did steal a little time last night work in my studio. I finished up this little kitty painting. It’s 5 x 5 inches

I have to remember to trust the powers that be, I know he has a plan for me 🙂

Thanks for stopping in to visit me!

I hope,  I find you all this Saturday with passion in your life. Are you a passionate person ? Do you show your emotions on your sleeve as they say? Or are you the quiet one that doesn’t show much passion?

I find that most people are passionate about something. Some it is family, animals, a hobby etc… I think it is good to have passion in your life. Sometimes our passions changes and that is just fine.

Since, I am full of passion. Here is my new pendant line, Passion Profiles.

FAITH

Faith IS success in life
Faith is the catalyst within
Faith is the belief to begin
Faith is the foundation and the frame
Faith is the power that helps you win
Faith is the concentration of your brain
Faith is the power to know and to do
Faith is the cure for ‘NO’ and those that ‘Lose’
Faith is your spirit, your sinews, your soul
Faith is the body that truly has all control
Faith is the beginning and the end
Faith is everything therein
Faith can move mountains and valleys and hills
But faith can do NOTHING…
Unless YOU are there.

by Jeff Rushton
Last Friday, I was diagnosis with Firbomyalgia.  Right now as,  I look for that faith within me to get me though some difficult days. I made this necklace to help me remember to HAVE FAITH.
I also have been working a little more on my Art of Giving class work. We were to make a blessing banner. Regina Lord showed us how to take canvas and make one. It was great BUT you had to sew…and me in the sewing machine de-friended a long time ago. So, I went to Hobby Lobby and got a canvas banner book and used that.
I am super excited with the way it turned out! I hung it on the wall in my studio!
Thanks for stopping in! Hope everyone is having a wonderful HUMP day!

Soup is simmering

I am in Lori Anderson’s 6th Bead Soup Blog Party. My partner is the lovely and talented Marta Weaver. Reveal date is July 28th!

A while a go I showed you a tease of what I sent Marta. Here is the soup I sent her:

I can’t wait to see what Marta does with these beads and the handmade made collage pendant I made for her.

I got my soup mix from Marta. Oh my heavens, what lovely lovely items I got.

Let’s look at that sweet little bronze face up close.. Marta’s artisan son Zach Weaver (one of her 4 sons) has hand sculpted and kiln fired this fabulous Bronze Precious Metal Clay pendant. Isn’t just glorious? What talent!

Next, I want to show you one of my new pieces. Spicing things up a little and trying some new bezels and sealing things in glass! Looks so professional does it?

Thanks for stopping in! Enjoy your day!
