Book Binding, GREEN

Labor of love

Recycle Reduce Reuse….well this is something I believe in and try to do always! The book I finished today is all reused. The book text is made from these wonderful file folder envelopes I got while out junking for 25 cents. For the covers I used the cover from an old dictionary I got at the library in the FREE bin a while back. Cut it with a little saw. I did use Masa paper to cover them. I used a vintage button and some scrap leather to make the closure! Since the envelopes have an opening at the end of them. I left plenty of space to put stuff in the pockets! This book I will collect my husbands ( and some day boys) hunting stories and memories in. Since it was a MAN’s book, I used duct tape and manly stuff! LOL! The print on the paper was made from what bullets come packed in! The guys are pretty happy with it! So, that makes me happy!

Happy 4th of July!!!!!!

Today is the day of Scrapbook News and Review’s “Oh Say Can You See” blog hop, so  I invite you to hop around the Internet and visit some amazing blogs.

To me 4th of July is a celebration of Freedom we have in the USA. I would like to take a moment to thank all the men and woman that are fighting for our freedom and their families. I personally know how hard it is on the families two special soldiers in my life our currently deployed-Brandon Brazil and Dan Caldwell! God speed home.We can’t wait for this war to be over and you be home for good!

Nothing says a celebrations better than a banner to me, plus I have tons of 4 x 4 coasters! LOL!

Supplies: Sunflower and Dragonflies Creative Designs 4th of July cake stamp, gesso to cover the coasters with, acrylics, stencil, white pen, charcole pencil, ebony pencil, crepe paper to make the medallions, stickles, flowers, string, felt letters, 4×4 coasters and brad. I used Koh-I-Noor woodless colored pencils to color the cake image. They color over a layer of acrylic wonderfully.

Growth

I finally think Spring is here in WI! I have no more snow in my yard! The grass looks a little green! It rained all day yesterday! Spring to me always means growth. I have really been trying to grow to ACHIEVE new things in my art life. I have been taking some online classes. Right, now I am taking a banner and garland class.  I think the hardest thing about trying something new is maintaining your OWN style and not trying to be like the person teaching you. Get what I mean??? I have been trying really hard to make everything I do mine.

Here is my first banner for my class:

In this banner I used 4 x 6 inch chipboard that I gesso and watercolored. I also used an old book that has the stages for a how a butterfly grows on them.

Here are a couple of close-ups
