Wall Hanging

Hey gang, I am here Today with a fun project using a page from the 6 x 6 scallop wooden book to make a wall hanging.  I think these pages are the perfect size to make a wall hanging with. What,  I just love is that each book comes with 4 pages. So, you could make 4 wall hangings from one book. Can you say lots of BANG for your buck!!! OH YEAH!

My wall hanging is called memento’s of the heart. The first thing I did was use the gelli art printing plate to do my back ground. I love you do not have to prep these books before you get busy creating with them. I also used Dad’s tie 6 x 6 stencil on the gelli art printing plate. I tend to stick with 3 colors on the gelli art printing plate. Then I moved on to adding some collage elements. You want to create movement with the pieces so I add in 3′s more the most part. I then drew out my gal on paper and painted her then adding her to scallop page. You could just paint her right on but I never have luck with that so I do it this way. I then added my words. Then the fun part comes with adding in little details. I used a regular Bic pen, gel pens, and a black colored pencil. Oh and some washi tape. Gosh…I love that stuff!  Once, I was happy with it, I sealed it all with a matt finish.  Used some string, lace and a twig to make a hanger. Cheap, cute and FUN gift!

Happy collages

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hello everyone! Happy Hump day. We are in the middle of our spring break here in Wisconsin. Truly it doesn’t seem like spring at all…on Monday we got snow and it’s been cold ever since. Currently it is 28 degrees. We are sooooo ready for some warm weather but I guess we have to wait on that.

Anyways, we are doing lots of fun happy things on Spring break. The first thing we did was go to a Milwaukee Brewers game . This is the best Happy video.  I am not going to share all the happy things we are doing on Spring break until the end of the week. I am going to show you this one project the boys and I did. I am so proud of them.

3 x 3 collages on wood. We stated by doing this presses on the gelli art plate then adding collages to them. Both boys have a great time and their projects turned out awesome.

GJS- Triangle wooden book

Hello everyone, I’m  here with a new project using the Triangle book from GJS. I wanted to do a project that I could hang on my wall (in my studio) to remind me of my word of the year. My word this year is focus.

IMG_2164 IMG_2166 IMG_2169 IMG_2171 IMG_2173

Okay, here is the 411 on my project.

1.  Covered each triangle with random bits of paper. I love to use my boys old school work and book pages.

2. Gesso over each triangle.

3. Used 3 colors of acrylics to paint the triangles.

4. Used 2 stencils. One with black paint and one with white paint.

5. I drew and painted a swan (but you could use clip art or anything else you want for your image).

6. I took all 4 triangles and put them in a row. I laid my swan (image) on top of the row of triangles to find out the place to cut the swan apart to put on each page.

7. I glued the swan parts down with gel medium.

8. Printed off my words on the computer, cut, colored and glued them down.

9. I took a permeant ball point pen and added in small details and doodles.

10. I then used a spray to seal it.

I know you are thinking!  How am I going to hang this on my wall? I use Command Poster Strips. Works like a charm. One of the things,  I love about these books is they are light weight but so sturdy.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for stopping in!

GJS- apple book

Today, I am here to share with you a Genuinely Jane Studios  NEW release wooden book. It’s the apple cut out book, 6 x 6 inches.  My first thought was to do an album of a trip to the apple orchard in it. HOLD the phone, we never made it to the apple orchard last year…so NO photos…sigh… Which lead to my master plan. A juicy tidbits book. Since, Sam and Ben  love jokes and puns. This is what I came up with.

Let’s get to the 411…

1. Took the book cover with the cut out of the apple and I traced it on some card stock.

2. Draw the faces on the apples. Painted them and cut them out. Now, if you are saying BUT I can’t draw like that….first, I challenge you to give it a try. If your inner critic is saying you can’t use them. Then, just paint them up fun or have your kids paint them.

3. Gessoed all the pages. You could also just cover them with scrapbook paper too.

4. Did a wash of watercolor (I used Derwent Inktense because once dry they are permanent) but you could use acrylics too (just water them down a little).

5. Stenciled the pages ( I used TCW mini Quatrefoil and TCW Coral)

6. Added washi tape, doodles (with a ballpoint pen) and painted in some details.

7. Glued down the apples and sayings that I printed of the computer.

8. on the front cover, I used some die cut letters. I put strips of the washi tape down on card stock then cut them out.

9. sealed all the pages with a matte sealer

I think this book would be fun filled with apple orchard photos or recipes of apple goodness. Hope you enjoyed my Juicy Tidbits book.

Thanks for stopping in. Until next time…Be Happy and SHINE:)

Watercolor owl book

The November Challenge over at Frog dog Studios is watercolors! I have been playing with watercolors since high school.  They are the media,  I feel most comfortable playing with.

In my studio I have  a couple of Genuinely Jane Studio wooden books.  I love than painting on wood. So, I took two pages of the four wooden pages and make my own little journal to keep my drawings in.  I cut some 110 lb card stock to fit in the book ( 5 1/2 inch square).  The supplies I used to make cover- white acrylic paint, watercolors, black pen, misc. paper, stencils and stickers.

Here is the cover:

I can’t wait to start filling this little book with my art work!

Walling Hang with GJS book

Hello Everyone,

I am so glad the summer is winding down. We got back from a week vacation. Seems, I just don’t have enough hours in a day to get everything done. Any ways, vacation was good. Got back and made 16 jars of jelly from the Chokecherries we picked. Then, I thought I needed to make homemade bread to go with the jelly. LOL! It was all down hill from there. Homemade cookies followed and then homemade pesto. It’s been a heck of a busy week.  Last night, I thought my soul would break if I didn’t make it down to my studio!

I had the Genuinely Jane Studios Wood Book- Barn Door G305. Which is on sale right now for $6.99 (hint hint). I thought it would make a cute wall hanging.  Lately my mind has been about people not being TRUE to themselves. Going with the crowd to fit in. Instead of being their own WONDERFUL self.

Be Yourself

by Ellen Bailey

Why would you want to be someone else
When you could be better by being yourself
Why pretend to be someone you are not
When you have something they haven’t got

Cheating yourself of the life you have to live
Deprives others of that only which you can give
You have much more to offer by being just you
Than walking around in someone else’s shoes

Trying to live the life of another is a mistake
It is a masquerade; nothing more than a fake
Be yourself and let your qualities show through
Others will love you more for being just you

Remember that God loves you just as you are
To Him you are already a bright shining star
Family and friends will love you more too
If you spent time practicing just being you

Thanks for stopping in to check out my work today! Go be YOU!

Mason jar- gifts

I just love taking a mason jar and filling it with candy for a gift! It’s fun and easy. Of course, you could fill them with lots of other things too! SMILE! I also made a little matching gift card. I used some wooden birds that I did a zentangle on for one and the other wooden bird I covered with washi tape!

Recycled vases

I have been spending a lot of time out in nature on slow walks (still under Doctor’s orders). It clears my mind and helps center me. On Mother’s Day the guys asked me what I wanted to do..So I thought for a while an said go on a hike then fishing. So, they made me breakfast and got me coffee and then we all dressed in camo and set off! It was a great day!

mothersday2013collage

We found lots of treasure on our hike. We found two bottles. We got them all cleaned up. This is what I did with them.

Genuinely Jane Studios- Project Spring Birds

Hello Everyone and Happy Middle of the week! Today, I am here to show you an album I made with a Genuinely Jane Studios wooden book.

I  LOVE to take photos. My soul is very at peace out in the woods on a “nature walk”. This year, I have seen some birds that just make my heart “chirp” for joy. So, I thought making a book with the photos I took would be awesome.

GJSspringbirdsbookfront

Front cover- You can see the killdeer from page 3

GJSbirdbook2-3

Pages 2 and 3- The Robin (it’s my state bird) and the killdeer. Love them long legs 😉

GJSbirdbook4-5

Pages 4-5, The Male and Female Red Breasted Grosbeak. This sweet pair comes to my feeder every year for a day. This year they were here for 3 days. This has been one of Ben’s favorite birds for a long time. They came the day we got the news that my youngest son (Ben)  has a form of autism PDD-NOS (he is high functioning). Each morning Ben got up and talked to this pair. It was like they stayed until we could all deal with the emotions we were feeling.

GJScloseupbirdbook

I used the Artiscellar stencils right on the photo. It helps to blend the two together.

GJSbirdbok5-6Pages 6-7, The Bald Eagle and the White Pelican. This was my first time I had ever seen a White Pelican. It was the most gorgeous sight to see them fly! Amazing!

GJS-birdbookcloseipelican

Close up of the Pelican pull out.

GJS-backofbook

The back of the book. Now, I know you are wondering what is so special about a pair of mallard ducks? Well every spring they walk though our back yard. So, It is a joke that there’s no quacking about it once you see the ducks it’s SPRING. Okay Okay ….BAD pun!

Hope you enjoyed my Spring bird book! I LOVE the albums at Genuinely Jane Studios.  Make sure you check them out…OH and they are having a sale on Unity Stamps 34% off so hurry over and check it out!
