Gelli Arts Print- Cat

I spent some time down in my studio. I just wanted to play. One of first loves is collage. I have been thinking about doing a cat collage for a while so here he is.

The other thing I have been thinking about is “being yourself”. Learning to love the person you are and not changing so other people will love you.  I read this online- One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that’s trying to make you like everyone else.  Someone will always be prettier, someone will always be smarter, someone will always be younger, but they will never be you.  Don’t change so people will like you.  Be yourself and the right people will love the real you. You shouldn’t have to change who you are to be around certain people! God made you the way you are for a reason and loves you just the way you are….we all have different talents…we are all a work in progress (WIP). Celebrate the true you! catgelliprintbycs copy catgelliprintcloseup copy How we should treat others…framedbeyourselfquote   Thanks for stopping in…hope you enjoyed my post! Hugs, signk

Layers and Masking

On Monday, I got up and the sermon that Pastor Marc G.  gave on Sunday at Church was still on my mind. I got out my notes from the service and looked up some of the scripture that Marc talked about….the part that stuck in my heart was “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstance” from Philippians 4:11.  Am I really content in an circumstance ???? Honestly in my heart, I know I need to work on this…

So, I set off to work on my Life Book lesson. I watched the videos which were totally amazing. Part of the lesson was to mediate. Which I am not good at…my mind is going in a hundred directions at once all the time.  Yet, all that was on my mind was being content in an circumstance. Trusting the Lord.  So, I started the layers and painting.

Art Journal Page

The last couple of days, I’ve been working on a art journal page in the same Alena Hennessy style. I’m a planner, plan and simple. So, this style of just paint from the heart and it will come I thought would be really hard for me. Turns out I was wrong. I enjoy the process so much more.

LifeBook 2014

One of the things, I wanted to do this year was learn to make some “Me” time. So, I signed up for LifeBook 2014. The first project/page Tam had us do was a guardian angel. Drawing “real” looking people is not my thing..but I gave it a go.

One of the other lesson was from Carla Sonheim.  It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Carla’s and have taking a few of her on-line classes. Carla always has you reach in and grab that inner 7 year old artist that we love to push out of sight!

A few of my favorites- Making flowers out of scraps, paint blob animals, drawing blind, drawing with non-dominent hand, and one liners.

Each night the boys and I have some art time. Some night’s it just a quick activity and other nights it’s more involved.  One of the activities Carla had us do was washi tape animals. So, I asked the boys to do it with me. I am over the moon excited about the results!

Sam’s bird- I am giddy in love with it! I am thinking it needs to be made into a pillow, t-shirt or something cool.

Ben’s animal- I am so in love with that eye and toes! So stinkin cute!

My bird- So fun!

I have to say, I am loving the LifeBook class so far! Doing things I would have never done and loving it!

What’s everyone else working on? Thanks for stopping in today!

To do book

I think this time of year we are all reflected on 2013. Seeing what worked for us this year and what didn’t. What things we can change to make the 2014  better.  My friend Susan was talking about Leonie Dawson 2014 Create Your Amazing Year workbooks.  I took a look and feel head over heels in love with them! Something to help me plan and hold me accountable for getting to the pot of gold at the end of MY rainbow!

One of the activities in the workbook is to make a “to do book”.  Basically a notebook decked out all pretty and a new way to do a “list”. I am not a notebook kind of gal. They make me nervous….What if I mess up? Tear a page out…ugh..nope can’t do it! So, I did a binder. Ahhh glorious pages I can pluck out if I “mess” up (we know it’s going to happen). Ahhh tabs…Yes, I love my office supplies.

I took a sheet of paper and decorated up the front with some of my art work. I drew something new. After I finished it Ben said to me “oh a snow globe gal”…neatO!  That boy cracks me up.

My word of the year is FOCUS so I made it my FOCUS on it list.  More coming on my word of the year. I am pretty excited to work in my “FOIL” book.

Thanks for stoping in to check out what I am working on.

Crack of the Month- December 2013

I have completed Carla Sonheim “sidewalk” crack of the month for December. I so enjoy this creative challenge each month. Here is a link to this month’s crack- Dec2013 .  As you can see, I turned the paper sideways.  Give it a try, I am sure you will enjoy it! It’s so FUN to see what other people see in the crack. It really makes you look at things in a different way. For example the back of my bathroom door- I now see an owl…I’ll have to post a photo of it soon so you can to you spot my owl too! LOL! closeupCOMdec crackofthemonthdec2013

The supplies I used are : acrylic white paint, ballpoint pen, and Dewert Inktense Blocks!

Thanks for stopping in! Enjoy your day! We are going sledding !

Watercolor owl book

The November Challenge over at Frog dog Studios is watercolors! I have been playing with watercolors since high school.  They are the media,  I feel most comfortable playing with.

In my studio I have  a couple of Genuinely Jane Studio wooden books.  I love than painting on wood. So, I took two pages of the four wooden pages and make my own little journal to keep my drawings in.  I cut some 110 lb card stock to fit in the book ( 5 1/2 inch square).  The supplies I used to make cover- white acrylic paint, watercolors, black pen, misc. paper, stencils and stickers.

Here is the cover:

Crack of the Month Club

Carla Sonheim sent out her newsletter yesterday with this great link to her Monthly side walk crack of the month. I have never done one before; however, the boys and I have taking her art of silliness class and have her book! Both are fabulous.  Ben’s favorite way to draw is the blob method. Any ways, I have been feeling in a rut lately. Not sure what direction I want to turn …art wise what truly makes me happy. So, when this “assignment” came up. I though well heck yeah, lets do this what do I have to lose???   I really didn’t have a lot of time to work ( 30 minutes) and didn’t want to drag out a hundred supplies.

First let me show you the crack (if you want to try the “assignment” make sure you grab it off Carla site.

IMG_7926

Then the supplies I used= pencil, cheap white acrylic paint, a cheap black pen and watercolors.

IMG_7920

Here is what I came up with:

IMG_7921 IMG_7925

I am not sure what you seen in the cracks but this strange elephant like creature is what I saw. I have to say…that this little “assignment” has put me in a whole new frame of mind. Seems so silly that 30 minutes with a hand full of supplies totally helped me clear my mind. I have committed to 30 days of  30 minute little paintings!

Thanks for stopping in!

Acceptance

Do you accept people for who they truly are? The good, the bad,  the ugly….no matter what they are your family and friends? I think at sometime in each and everyone one of our lives we have not been accepted and not accepted someone. It is sad but true.

Back in high school,  I started drawing these masked tribal faces. My art teacher always said they are good but not ready to share yet. I was never really sure what she meant by that….thinking back I think I lacked a little detail in them. The reason these are back in the front of my mind is Rachel Andrews has been doing these fabulous tribal paintings. So yesterday, I set out with my watercolor supplies( my first love) and created.

No one should have to wear a mask to be accepted. Everyone deserves a million and one chances to get things right. Make sure you don’t prejudge someone and that you forgive always!

Thanks for stopping in to visit today!
